1. Introduction: The Core Appeal of Pari Mahal
Perched dramatically on the jagged spur of the Zabarwan Mountain Range, overlooking the shimmering expanse of Dal Lake and the sprawling Mughal gardens of Srinagar, stands Pari Mahal—historically translated as the "Palace of Fairies." Unlike the flat, water-fed pleasure grounds of Nishat Bagh or Shalimar Bagh, Pari Mahal is a seven-terraced architectural masterpiece that clings to a sheer hillside. Built in the mid-17th century by Prince Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, this site served as both an astronomical observatory and a residential garden for Sufi studies.
Today, pari mahal srinagar ranks as the absolute premier vantage point in the Kashmir Valley for panoramic landscape photography and golden-hour observation. While thousands flock to Dal Lake for morning shikara rides, savvy travelers ascend the winding hill road late in the afternoon to witness the legendary sunset view pari mahal is famous for. As the sun dips behind the Pir Panjal mountains, the entire city of Srinagar, the sprawling lotus beds of the lake, and the boulevard loop light up in amber and violet tones.
